Student Health Insurance

The University requires all new, transfer or readmitted international students to be automatically enrolled in the University of Utah Student Health Insurance Plan administered by United Healthcare Student Resources.

For more information about student insurance, including cost please visit www.uhcsr.com/utah. Scroll down to the current brochure.

If you have an existing insurance plan, you may be eligible to apply for a waiver from the insurance requirement.  Your existing plan must have coverage that equivalent to or better than the plan offered by the University.  Travel plans do not qualify!  For information regarding the waiver process contact Kerry Hill.

As you may know, health care in the U.S. is very expensive.  Please be aware that most insurance plans purchased by students do not provide equivalent or better coverage, so the University advises you to review the coverage requirements before you purchase a non-University plan.  As a reminder, travel insurance plans will not qualify for the waiver.

All international students are required to submit two MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella) vaccines or a documented blood test (titers) that show immunity to measles, mumps and rubella (translated in English) to the University of Utah.

You can do this on the Student Health website at www.studenthealth.utah.edu.  Click on the red “Patient Portal” button and set up your account.  Once you log onto your account you can enter your immunization dates (Immunization tab) and upload a copy of your records or titers (Upload tab).

You will also be required to complete the TB Risk Assessment form under the “forms” tab on your Patient Portal.  You will receive a message in your Patient Portal if you are required to have a TB Skin Test.   Please note that TB testing must be done once you arrive to the University, we will not accept TB tests given outside the U.S.

If you have questions regarding these requirements, please contact Kerry Hill.
